Burning Man’s Mission Statement

2008 ART THEME: AMERICAN DREAM

http://burningman.com/art_of_burningman/bm08_theme.html

This year's art theme is about nationality, identity and the nature of patriotism. One species of the patriotic urge conflates the nation state with mass identity. Governments, as actors on a worldwide stage, become a surrogate for self, a vast projection of collective ego. And yet, there is another type of patriotic feeling that attaches us to place and people, to a home and its culture. Both these feeling states (and their attendant ironies) are relevant to this year's theme.

Local Year-Round Groups & Reoccurring Events of Interest

Apogaea

Apogaea is a collaborative outdoor arts and music festival held in Colorado. Here you will find an experiential forum where our ever-expanding community practices freedom of expression in an environment of participation, sharing, and creativity. We invite you to join us in a place where our spirits are as high as the mountains and our minds are as wide open as the plains.

In the spirit of the Burning Man event, Apogaea establishes a temporary autonomous zone where radical self-expression, inclusiveness, and self-reliance are the hallmarks of its participants. Apogaea is your opportunity to create and contribute, experience and evolve, share and accept, work and play.

ART @ ART: Be Art, See Art.
1st Friday Art Tour (First Friday of every month)

ART@ART -is- art. ART@ART is a -private- event, in which like minded
individuals can share the expense of getting around, in style, one
night per month to see as much beautiful art as possible. We
transverse the streets of Denver from gallery to gallery in my
Recreational Vehicle. We are not public transportation, so please do
not invite the public to board.

We choose a theme each month to provide a connection between each
participant, and a sense of cohesiveness for the group. Only people I
personally know, who are also participating in ART@ART's theme, are
allowed on-board ART@ART. Please be sure to introduce any new friends
to me or they may not be allowed aboard.

Most participants express the theme thru costuming, but all forms of
expression are allowed and encouraged. Your 100% participation is
necessary for this project to continue. The
uncostumed/non-participating/general-public are -not- welcome to board
at will. Please help maintain the -private- aspect of this event.

Your $5 recommended donation is appreciated and helps cover the
expense of continuing ART@ART as well as the cost of the eco-friendly
Biodiesel fuel that powers the bus. 8^)

Colorado Rangers

The Rangers are a cross-section of the Burning Man community who volunteer some of their time in the role of non-confrontational community mediators. Responding to the ever-changing environment, we address within our community situations that would otherwise require outside intervention. By encouraging and facilitating communication, the Rangers promote awareness of potential hazards, from sunstroke to tent fires. We are emphatically not the police or a paramilitary organization.

Denver Cruiser Bike Ride

The Denver Cruisers are committed to fun! Our rides last year garnered as many as 135 riders, and this year we take to the streets for a summer of fun! This is more than just a ride, it's a great way to meet people, and have lots of fun on a Wednesday night! We start at Paris Wine Bar EVERY WEDNESDAY from May 16th to September 26th, and spend the evening cruising the streets of Denver.  A motley crew of riders that get together every Wednesday, and ride on a weekly basis... as it turns out, we've got lawyers, doctors, realtors, custom bike makers and a plethera of other bike fanatics that love riding! We have so much fun, this is a very social group of people.... we ride, we party... most of all we have FUN! There's so many great spots we visit... from Paris Wine Bar to the Front Porch to the dreaded CIRCLE OF DEATH.

One Tribe

Onetribe is the umbrella name for all of Denver's front range art collectives that have decided to unite their efforts in the force of productions and evolutionary philosophy. We are now interested in multi-media art productions moving beyond the realm of strictly "music-focused" events. We had a semi-monthly event that occurred at The Mercury Cafe in downtown Denver. We currently hold events at other locations sporadically and retreat to the outdoors when spring arrives.

The Rock Opera

The Rock Opera Pyramid is a highly interactive art piece that promotes community, art, love & introspection.  The pyramid is a symbol of the hierarchical structure of the universe. The lines of its four corners rise and converge at the summit to resemble unity. It is a symbol that teaches us to rise above the plane on which we find only multiplicity and dissemination to the higher plane of unity.  With this more lucid point of view, we are able to grasp the true reality of things.  Pyramidal shapes of wood will be within reach to inspire one to write their dreams, hopes & wishes, and then push it through a slot where it will be encased within the Pyramid and awaits its smoky ascension. The wishes and dreams are released into the universe during the Pyramid burn on Friday evening.

To me, the Rock Opera is about the overwhelming feeling I get when I look into the beautiful eyes and soulful smiles of the thousands who have come to share in the breath taking and awe inspiring event. It is deeply personal and gratifying beyond words.

The Rock Opera is a gift to Burning Man and to unite the thousands of people it touches.

The Square Lounge

“Musicians, poets, dancers and performers of every stripe come together for an eclectic showcase of Denver's most original and exciting talent at the Square Lounge, a new monthly event at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln Street. It's like a mixture of old TV variety shows and dada-inspired cabaret that’s been spiked with a healthy slug of high-proof booze. Host Eric Matelski says he's aiming for something different from what's currently available on the Denver scene, a chance for Denver's unique talents to showcase their skills in a venue where almost anything goes.” - Cory Casciato, Westword

The fun starts at 11 p.m.; admission is $5. For more information, call 303-898-4350 or e-mail minime80465@yahoo.com.
